Buying a laser machine is not like buying a phone. If it stops working, your production stops with it. So the price tag is only half the story. The other half is what happens after the machine arrives at your shop.
Installation and training
Who is going to unpack, level, and dial in the machine? If you’re buying from overseas, you need a clear plan for installation. Some suppliers send an engineer. Some provide video calls. Either way, it should be included, not treated as an extra.
Training matters just as much. If your operator doesn’t know how to set the focus, change a protective lens, or adjust gas pressure, the machine won’t run at its best. Ask for real training, not just a PDF manual. Some suppliers, like Xianming’s fiber laser cutting machines, include remote training and operation videos with their equipment.
Response time and remote support
When a machine goes down, you don’t want to wait three days for an email reply. Ask the supplier: what is your response time? Do you use WhatsApp or WeChat? Can you diagnose the problem remotely?
A good supplier can often troubleshoot by video call in a few hours. That saves you from waiting for an on-site visit, which can take weeks if you’re overseas.
Warranty and spare parts
Check the warranty period carefully. It usually covers the laser source and main components, but not consumables. Nozzles, protective lenses, and ceramic rings wear out. Ask how fast the supplier can ship these parts to your country. If they don’t stock them locally, you could be down for weeks.
Preventive maintenance
A supplier who only sells you the machine and disappears is not a partner. Good after-sales service includes a maintenance schedule and reminders. Ask if they offer annual service checkups or remote software updates.
The bottom line
A cheap machine with no support can cost more than a good machine with responsive service. Before you buy, ask these four questions: Who installs it? Who trains my team? How fast can you ship spare parts? What is your response time when I have a problem?
If you’re not sure what support you need, send your location and machine type to our engineering team. We’ll tell you exactly what to expect.
