Proper Startup Sequence for Laser Welding Equipment

In laser welding operations, following a standardized startup procedure is a critical prerequisite for ensuring safe operation, stable welding quality, and extended laser equipment service life.

Especially in continuous production or high-power welding applications, improper startup procedures may pose potential risks to both equipment and operator safety.

As a professional manufacturer deeply engaged in the laser equipment industry, Foster Laser consistently emphasizes that strictly following the standard startup process is the first step toward

stable and efficient operation of laser welding machines.

I. Standard Startup Procedure for Laser Welding Machines

Before starting welding operations, please complete the following steps in sequence:

First Power on the entire machine and release the emergency stop

Switch on the main power supply of the machine. After confirming stable voltage, check and rotate the emergency stop button to release it, ensuring the equipment is ready for operation.

Second Start the chiller system

Turn on the chiller and confirm that the “RUN” indicator is flashing. The cooling system will begin circulating coolant, providing stable temperature control for the laser source and key optical

components.

Third Turn on the laser source after the chiller reaches the preset temperature

Once the chiller water temperature reaches and stabilizes within the preset range, switch on the laser source. This prevents thermal shock caused by unstable temperature, helping to protect the

laser source and extend its service life.

Fourth Open the gas supply and confirm normal pressure

Open the shielding gas valve and ensure smooth gas flow and stable pressure. Proper gas protection improves welding stability and weld bead quality.

Fifth Start the wire feeder (if the wire feeding function is used)

If the system is equipped with a wire feeder, start it only after confirming that the gas supply and laser source are operating normally, ensuring continuous and stable welding performance.

II. Importance of a Standardized Startup Procedure

Strict adherence to the startup sequence helps to:

Ensure coordinated and stable operation of all laser welding machine systems

Reduce the risk of failure of critical components such as the laser source and chiller

Improve operational safety and weld consistency

Extend overall equipment service life and minimize unplanned downtime

III. Foster Laser’s Professional Assurance

Whether using handheld laser welding machines or automated welding laser machine systems, following the standard startup procedure recommended by Foster Laser is essential for

achieving safe, efficient, and reliable welding operations.
